How Does CBD Help With Wellness?

From Wellness Interactive Branding, LLC.

CBD is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis and is derived directly from the hemp plant. The hemp plant is a cousin of marijuana, but the hemp-derived CBD on its own does not cause a “high.”  Per key literature from the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD “To date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

The applications for health and wellness continues to expand for this naturally derived compound. Its potential health effects are incredible. CBD comes to the wellness marketplace in several main product forms, including CBD oils, pills/capsules, topical creams, and edibles (gummies).

Summaries of scientific studies and opinions of medical experts, such as those at Harvard Medical School,  represent the beginning conversations in research for the health benefits of CBD. Formal studies continue on the subject as people all over the globe are seeking and finding relief.

How does CBD help with wellness? There are a variety of potential uses and benefits for the compound. Let’s discuss.

Treatment for Childhood Epilepsy Syndromes

Some of the earliest modern studies for the use of CBD were for childhood epilepsy syndromes that didn’t respond to traditional anti-seizure medications like Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS). These studies represent the strongest scientific evidence for CBD’s effectiveness. The medication for these syndromes containing CBD is approved by the FDA and on the market called Epidiolex.

It is this critical application in addressing serious medical conditions that have helped bring CBD oil into some more traditionally conservative states, such as Georgia. This use for children helped to launch CBD into greater popularity as a resource for wellness, prompting its application to other areas of public health.

This includes beginning findings from CBD research that shows anti-inflammatory, anti-asthmatic, analgesic, and antitumor properties.

How else may it help with wellness?

Potential Alleviation of Anxiety

One of the uses that CBD is being targeted for is the alleviation of anxiety. There are dozens of clinical trials currently ongoing studying the effects of CBD on anxiety to assist health and wellness professionals and consumers alike make personal decisions on introducing new strategies for wellness.

An earlier study published in the journal Neurotherapeutics in 2015, reported, “Overall, current evidence indicates CBD has considerable potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders.” The study focused on acute dosage and is very promising. They also recommended more focus to be made on further study in chronic (ongoing) dosage.

Currently, CBD has the potential to help individuals with varying forms of anxiety, including social anxiety and post-traumatic stress. The results of the current research continue to be in process, and in the meantime, many people who have decided to try CBD have seen some relief.

Relief from Insomnia

Are you having trouble sleeping? If so, you are not alone. It is not uncommon for people to have disruptions in their circadian rhythm, the 24-hour cycle that regulates our sleeping patterns.  Difficulty sleeping is such a common occurrence that “sleep wellness’ is having a real revolution with all types of products and services from sleep apps on your phone to innovations in pillows and mattresses, and much more.

That being said, CBD has also come into the forefront in addressing insomnia and challenging sleeping patterns. People are looking for natural alternatives to traditional sleep medication that can be addictive.

Some of the benefits that people report when taking CBD to assist with better sleeping includes less fatigue early in the morning, higher energy throughout the day, deeper REM sleep, and increased ability to focus with a sense of rejuvenation.

Potential Help for the Reduction of Chronic Pain

Chronic pain takes a big toll on the lives of many people. It’s a constant battle to get through the day. With the ramifications of the opioid crisis ever-present in the minds of many, those who deal with chronic pain are looking for alternatives.

CBD has recently become a more frequent choice to help with pain relief. CBD is touted to have anti-inflammatory qualities and has been used for a variety of types of chronic pain, including pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Interestingly, cannabis products were widely used in the history of the United States, including in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This was before federal restrictions began in 1937. Since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill that removed hemp-derived CBD (<0.3% THC) from the Controlled Substances Act, products have rebounded to the marketplace, including those with 0% THC that frequently provide relief for those suffering from chronic pain.

The potential of CBD to enhance overall wellness is extremely exciting. Anxiety, childhood seizure disorders, insomnia, and chronic pain are just the beginning of potential benefits. Other areas that wellness professionals are utilizing CBD include help with depression, cancer-related symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, acne, and potentially even circulation and heart health.

But wait – there’s more!

To Enhance Pet Wellness Too!

Our pets are part of our family, and we want them to be healthy too! Coinciding with the explosion of CBD in the human healthcare marketplace   – the pet healthcare marketplace is enjoying an invigoration with the entrance of CBD products for our furry friends.

According to the American Kennel Club’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Jerry Klein, that even though the scientific data isn’t in yet for dogs, there is anecdotal evidence from dog owners of the use of CBD in improving their dog’s health. This includes pain, neuropathic pain, and helping to control seizures (like in kids!). It is also used in pets for its anti-inflammatory properties, anti-nausea effects, anti-anxiety impacts, and for appetite stimulation. Sound familiar? Perhaps we have more in common with our pets than we think?

CBD has an enormous possibility to affect our health and wellness. If you are looking for a new strategy in your personalized wellness program, CBD products could be a wonderful life-enhancing addition.
