I had tumors throughout my lymphatic system and I was told I had five months to live unless I started chemotherapy within one week but I felt fine. Five months! I could not believe it. I remember the doctor asking if I had a good support base, responding “Yes” and the doctor saying, “You are going to need it”. I remember my daughter was with me and as we walked out of the doctor’s office I saw an M1 bus that we needed to board. After boarding the bus, I could not find any change. Life is crazy. One minute you are told you have cancer and the next you need change for the bus. How absurd.
Fortunately for me, my friend Desiree offered her services. This blessing came at a time in my life when I felt I had no hope. With her and her team of professionals’ knowledge in educating people afflicted with health challenges, I was able to approach what appeared to be a dire situation with clarity. Although, I underwent traditional chemotherapy, I also worked closely with professionals, who taught me about the potential to minimize the toxic effects of the drugs on my body by utilizing herbs that Mother Nature has always provided. After incorporating different holistic therapies, I was able to function well, with increased energy.
Two years ago, I would have never imagined that not only would I return to a full life and successful career but also win a prestigious award. My company, The Dreyfus Corporation awards this honor once per year and I was picked from over 16,000 applicants.
I've often asked myself what lesson did I need to learn from cancer and why did it have to come in this particular way? I did not understand it then and still am challenged to understand it now. I have also learned to keep the “why” at a distance, and what I do understand is the blessings of a great support system, which has proven immensely helpful.
